Maynard Nexsen’s Intellectual Property Practice Group advises and represents our clients about patents, trademarks, copyrights and trade secrets. The attorneys in the group include seasoned patent, trademark, copyright, and litigation attorneys with a wide range of technical backgrounds and experience in patent and trademark prosecution, copyright registration, trade secret protection, intellectual property litigation and dispute resolution. In contentious matters, we represent clients in all forms of dispute resolution, including patent challenge and trademark opposition actions in the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, infringement actions in state and federal courts, and actions before the International Trade Commission, the AAA/ICDR, and other international arbitration associations. Our IP attorneys have done extensive transactional work, including licensing, technology transfer agreements and due diligence. Our business transaction experience includes in-licensing, out-licensing, university research, collaboration, research and development agreements, manufacturing and commercial supply agreements and employee agreements. We also perform due diligence for start-up planning, freedom-to-operate and potential investments.
Our intellectual property attorneys have legal and industry experience in every field of technology, and a sampling of areas in which we represent clients includes life sciences (pharmaceuticals and biotechnology), material science, medical and diagnostic devices, geotechnical application, electronics, computers (software and artificial intelligence), telephony (mobile and wireless), fintech, autonomous vehicles (drones, cars, and robotics), manufacturing and consumer products.
We help clients acquire patents, trademarks, and copyrights and advise them on identifying and maintaining trade secrets and other confidential information. In addition to our experienced attorney teams, we are supported by multiple patent agents and technical advisors, many with Master’s and Ph.D. degrees and research experience in chemistry, biochemistry and computer science, who write, file, and assist with the prosecution of U.S. patents and patent applications.
We utilize foreign agents to file and prosecute our clients’ counterpart patent applications in every commercially significant country in the world. We work with registered patent attorneys in foreign countries to obtain consistent patent rights for our clients worldwide. We also obtain registered U.S. trademarks for our clients that include brand names for a significant number of Fortune 500 clients and work with foreign agents to protect those marks worldwide.
