For twenty-five years, Franklin has been providing valuable legal and business counsel to clients operating in the world of real estate to help them develop and entitle projects, protect their assets, make successful and purposeful investments, and advance their goals.
Combining his solid background in tax, corporate law, and banking and finance with over two and a half decades of experience focused on real estate law, Franklin has a wealth of knowledge and know-how that he puts to work every day for his clients. He is proactive and forward-thinking in everything he does, constantly striving to stay ahead of market projections and industry trends. He collaborates with his clients, ranging from Fortune 500 companies with multi-state operations to local businesses, advising them in all aspects of their real estate endeavors, including acquisitions, dispositions, mergers, joint ventures, project development and construction, redevelopment, zoning, land use, entitlements, and leasing. In the economic development realm, Franklin is experienced in negotiating tax incentives and structuring attractive economic development packages when clients are expanding or relocating. He also has significant experience in New Market Tax Credit transactions and Opportunity Zone matters, as well as work-related tax credits.
Although his practice is national in scope, Franklin has been instrumental in bringing new business to the Carolinas, particularly along the coast of South Carolina. He is particularly passionate about and experienced with assisting builders, developers, owners, and managers active in the hotel, resort, mixed use, industrial, residential and convention center sectors.
As Chair of Maynard Nexsen’s national Real Estate & Environmental Law Practice, a force of more than 130 professionals representing clients throughout the United States, and as the Managing Shareholder of the Myrtle Beach office, Franklin is a constant leader and mentor throughout the depth of talent in the Firm. He has also served as a leader in the community throughout his entire career, currently serving on the board of trustees of Brookgreen Gardens. Franklin previously served on the board of visitors for the Medical University of South Carolina and the board of directors for the South Carolina Governor's School of Science and Mathematics (GSSM) Foundation as well as on the board of directors for the E. Craig Wall College of Business Administration at Coastal Carolina University and was a member of the school's College of Humanities and Fine Arts Board of Visitors for several years prior to this appointment. Franklin also served on a subcommittee of former Gov. Mark Sanford’s Commission on Management, Accountability, and Performance, and was a member of the board of directors of the South Carolina Captive Insurance Association and BCI Insurance Services, LLC. He was also a member of the Class of 2008 of the Liberty Fellowship Program of South Carolina.

Outside Maynard Nexsen
Franklin and his wife LeAnne live in Pawleys Island with their two children, William and Caroline. Franklin enjoys spending time with his family, boating, hunting, cooking, entertaining and traveling. He attends Prince George Winyah Episcopal Church and is an avid collector of unique wines.
