Overview

Knoxville is a nature-loving, adventure-seeking town in the Tennessee Valley, with more than 900,000 people calling the city and its metro area home.

Knoxville is one of the region's most accessible cities for outdoor adventure. The city is just one hour away from Great Smoky Mountain National Park. Urban Wilderness, a system of more than 60 miles of trails and greenways, connects residents and visitors to hiking, biking, climbing and paddling within the heart of the city. Knoxville's downtown area, including Market Square and the historic Old City District, is a hub of activity with restaurants, shops and entertainment. The city is known for its iconic Sunsphere, a remnant of the 1982 World's Fair, which today serves as a panoramic viewing tower offering stunning views of the downtown skyline and Tennessee River Valley.

Knoxville is home to the University of Tennessee, which significantly influences the city's youthful and energetic atmosphere character. Sports fans enjoy cheering on the Tennessee Volunteers, whose teams boast 23 NCAA national championships. In the fall, football games at Neyland Stadium become city-wide events as the town floods with orange-and-white-clad alumni and fans.
