Overview

Brian serves as Of Counsel in the Intellectual Property and Technology practice at Maynard Nexsen.

Having practiced law for over 20 years, Brian is well-versed in all areas of IP and has experience in patents, copyrights, computer software licensing and other intellectual property law areas. Specifically, Brian's practice includes the preparation and prosecution of patent applications with a concentration in the electrical and computer software arts; the analysis and preparation of opinions relating to the patentability of an idea, the validity or invalidity of a patent, the infringement of a patent and the freedom to use a product; and the preparation of confidentiality agreements and intellectual property and computer software licenses.

Brian has managed the patent portfolios of several major corporations, assisting in protecting their patent rights, both in the United States and abroad. Brian's duties in managing the portfolios include the identification of the patentable ideas and the coordination, preparation, filing, and prosecution of patent applications, as well as the maintenance of the patents that are granted.

His prior work experience includes the position of Examiner with the United States Patent and Trademark Office which serves as the foundation of his intellectual property knowledge. He spent considerable time examining applications relating to software development, computer program compiler technology, electronic commerce, business methods, and artificial intelligence.

Brian received his J.D. from the University of Pittsburgh School of Law and holds a B.S. cum laude from the University of Pittsburgh.
