Overview
Karen is a Shareholder in Maynard Nexsen’s Real Estate & Financial Services practice group.
With more than 25 years of experience in real estate law, Karen focuses her practice on real estate transactions and real estate-related matters throughout the United States, including acquisitions, development and dispositions of improved and unimproved property, entitlement enhancement, infrastructure development, and implementation, and real estate equity and debt investments. Representing landowners and developers, buyers and sellers, borrowers and lenders, Karen has experience with large land assemblages, single-family residential developments, golf course properties (both in the U.S. and in Mexico), and office, industrial, retail, and multi-family projects. She has experience with entity-level and project-level financing, as well as with the restructuring of troubled loans, foreclosures, and deeds in lieu of foreclosure transactions.
Before joining the firm, Karen practiced with a boutique law firm in Dallas, Texas, which, for over a decade, has served essentially as in-house counsel to a Dallas-based real estate investment fund manager and its affiliates, with properties throughout the southern United States. Prior to that, Karen was a shareholder in a large, Dallas-based regional law firm, handling a wide variety of real estate and corporate transactions.
Karen earned her J.D. cum laude from SMU Dedman School of Law and her B.B.A. in Finance from The University of Texas at Austin.
