Overview

La Keisha W. Butler is a seasoned attorney with a robust background in tax law, employment law, civil litigation, and municipal law.  With a Master of Laws in Taxation from NYU School of Law and a Juris Doctor from Vanderbilt University, she has spent over a decade providing comprehensive legal services and advocacy across multiple sectors.  As Of Counsel at Maynard Nexsen P.C., she advises employers on a wide range of labor and employment issues, manages risk, and represents clients in complex litigation, often achieving favorable outcomes, including successful defenses in employment discrimination and constitutional law cases.

Prior to joining Maynard, La Keisha held several key roles for the City of Milwaukee.  As the  City’s Legislative Liaison Director, she spearheaded the City’s legislative strategies at the federal, state, and local levels.  As the first African American woman to serve as Executive Director of the Fire and Police Commission, she led significant initiatives to improve public transparency and policy compliance within the police and fire departments, managing a multi-million-dollar budget and supervising a diverse team. 

La Keisha has been recognized throughout her career for her strategic insight, leadership, and litigation success.  Her work has extended to advising city officials, managing intergovernmental relations, and representing clients in administrative tribunals and state and federal courts.  Active in her community, La Keisha serves on the Nonresident Lawyers Division Board of the State Bar of Wisconsin and is a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.
