Overview
Shannon works in the Firm's Health Care Practice Group, where she helps to support a range of practitioners and practice groups, hospitals, laboratories, and other entities as they navigate the increasingly complex field of health care. Shannon has experience representing clients in an array of health care litigation matters, representation of hospitals in physician, patient, and payor disputes, state and federal regulatory health care compliance, advice related to health care transactions and affiliation structures, and a wide range of other health care matters.
Regarding health care litigation, Shannon has experience in a variety of matters in both state and federal court, including contract and payment disputes, breach of privacy claims, FOIA challenges, and Certificate of Public Advantage (COPA) challenges, antitrust litigation, and payor appeals, to name a few. She has also worked on appeals and defense of agency decisions across multiple states, and helps with cases representing large corporations in ongoing high-profile antitrust cases. Shannon also advises and represents clients in all stages of licensing applications and disputes before state regulatory boards.
Outside of litigation, Shannon advises clients on complex health care compliance issues including HIPAA and other privacy and security laws, Medicare/Medicaid regulations, Anti-Kickback Statues and Stark Law, EKRA, and No Surprises Act/price transparency issues. She has expertise in navigating HIPAA privacy and security questions including low probability of compromise analyses and drafting policies and procedures. She helps to represent health care clients in payor contract negotiations and reimbursement disputes with private payors, and provides counsel on state provider and facilities licensing matters, handling preparation and submission of applications, and communication with agencies, including on appeals.
Shannon earned her law degree from the University of South Carolina School of Law and her undergraduate degree from the University of South Carolina Honors College. During law school, Shannon was an Articles Editor for the South Carolina Law Review and was elected Chair of the Honor Council.

Outside of the office, Shannon enjoys running and being active, advocating for animals and doing all things Columbia. Like any good Columbia, South Carolina resident, Shannon is an avid South Carolina Gamecocks fan.

- Represents clients in trials before the South Carolina Administrative Law Court
- Represents clients in contract and payment disputes, breach of privacy claims, FOIA challenges, and Certificate of Public Advantage (COPA) challenges.
- Part of a Maynard Nexsen team representing a large corporation in an ongoing high-profile antitrust MDL
- Handles and manages large-scale and complex discovery operations in both state and federal court, including overseeing contract attorneys in reviewing large quantities of documents.
- Aides in multiple matters in which the firm represents qui tam defendants in False Claims Act investigations and suits, including physicians, chiropractors, laboratories, and imaging centers.

- Health care compliance issues including Medicare/Medicaid regulations, Anti-Kickback Statute and Stark Law, EKRA, and No Surprises Act/price transparency issues.
- Navigating HIPAA Privacy and Security questions, including low probability of compromise analyses, drafting policies and procedures, and providing advice to health care clients.

- Representing health care clients in payor contract negotiations and reimbursement disputes with private payors.

Most recently, successfully took the lead working with North Carolina DHHS to prevent the impending closure of multiple licensed facilities for a large REIT client.
