Maynard Nexsen Expands Team with Experienced Government Relations Professional
Maynard Nexsen, a full-service law firm with 24 offices across the United States, is pleased to welcome Carter Wells as a Government Relations Advisor. Carter brings over three decades of experience spanning the public, private and nonprofit sectors.
For the past fifteen years, he served as Vice President for Economic Development at HudsonAlpha Institute for Biotechnology, an organization founded on insights from the Human Genome Project. During his tenure at the Institute, he led teams responsible for fostering and recruiting dozens of biotech companies on the HudsonAlpha Campus. Additionally, he spearheaded the efforts to secure funding for and oversee the construction of several key buildings on the Biotech Campus. His contributions to this innovative sector were featured in Fast Company in 2024.
Carter’s expertise encompasses a wide range of disciplines, including government affairs, economic development, entrepreneurship, startups, small business management, nonprofit leadership, workforce recruitment and retention, growth strategies, media relations and communications. He has experience providing both strategic and tactical guidance, crafting and executing business strategies and corporate visions, advising on legislative, communication and political strategies, and supporting government relations, entrepreneurship, organizational development and workforce initiatives.

While his work will be across the firm’s national footprint, Carter will be principally based in the firm’s Huntsville and Washington, D.C. offices.
In addition to his role at Maynard Nexsen, he is the principal at Bankhead Strategy & Consulting, LLC, where he guides entrepreneurs and startup companies.
Carter holds a B.A. in Political Science from Auburn University.
