Maynard Cooper & Gale Elevates Five Attorneys to Shareholder
Maynard Cooper & Gale (Maynard) is pleased to announce the promotion of five attorneys to shareholder, effective January 1, 2023. The Firm’s new shareholders include William Bloom, Tommy Buck, Mike Evans, Jon Mills, and Steven Strother.

William Bloom is a member of Maynard’s Litigation Section. He represents clients across the United States in a variety of complex litigation, investigations, and crisis management. He focuses his practice on complex litigation in both state and federal court and has specific background in complex commercial litigation, appellate litigation, and securities litigation. William earned his J.D. from the University of Virginia School of Law where he was a member of the Order of the Coif and Articles Editor for the Virginia Law Review. Following law school, he served as a law clerk for the Honorable Judge William H. Pryor, Jr. on the United States Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit. He also holds a B.A., summa cum laude, in History and Political Science from the University of Alabama.
Tommy Buck is also a member of Maynard’s Litigation Section. Tommy’s practice covers a variety of litigation at both the trial and appellate levels. He has defended clients in the health care and education industries against claims brought under the False Claims Act and has represented individual, corporate, and governmental clients across a wide range of court proceedings, including federal and state-court appeals, commercial and employment disputes, class actions, and federal criminal prosecutions. Tommy has been named to the Alabama State Bar Leadership Forum and has been recognized as One to Watch by Best Lawyers since 2021. Additionally, Tommy has served as a law clerk to Justice Jay Mitchell at the Supreme Court of Alabama and an intern to the Honorable Judge R. David Proctor in the Northern District of Alabama. Before attending law school, Tommy served as a Surface Warfare Officer, Public Affairs Officer, and admiral’s aide in the United States Navy. Tommy received his J.D. from Emory University School of Law. He also holds a B.S. in Political Science and English from Vanderbilt University and an M.T.S. from Candler School of Theology.
Mike Evans is a member of Maynard’s Corporate, Securities, and Tax Practice. His practice focuses on mergers and acquisitions. He regularly advises companies and funds of all types and sizes in complex transactions, with an emphasis on middle-market, private-company transactions. In particular, he works with portfolio companies of private equity funds to develop and execute comprehensive bolt-on acquisition strategies. Mike’s transaction experience encompasses a broad range of industries. In the healthcare space, he frequently represents both private equity funds, on the buy-side, and physician practice groups, on the sell-side, in roll-up transactions. In insurance, he served as lead counsel in over 15 transactions that helped a strategic acquirer create one of the largest third-party administrators in the United States. He also counsels numerous technology and SaaS companies on acquisition and disposition strategies. He graduated from the University of Georgia, cum laude, in 2012 and from Washington and Lee University School of Law, cum laude, in 2015, where he served as the Managing Editor of the Washington and Lee Law Review. Mike was named a Rising Star in Mergers and Acquisitions by SuperLawyers in 2020 and One to Watch in Corporate Law by Best Lawyers in 2021-present.
Jon Mills is also a member of Maynard’s Corporate, Securities, and Tax Practice. His practice focuses on tax, mergers and acquisitions, business planning, and economic development. As both a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) and attorney, Jon has extensive experience in assisting businesses with federal and state income tax matters. Jon provides general corporate governance advice to business owners and management and represents clients on both the sell-side and buy-side of transactions in a variety of industries. Prior to law school and joining the Maynard team, Jon worked as a CPA in Birmingham. He received his B.S. in Business Administration and his Masters of Accountancy from Samford University. After graduating from Cumberland School of Law where he was Associate Editor of the Cumberland Law Review, he received his Master of Laws in Taxation from the Levin College of Law at the University of Florida. Jon is a graduate of Leadership Tuscaloosa, class of 2015-2016 and was named One to Watch in Corporate Law and Tax Law (2021-2022) and Mergers and Acquisitions (2022) by Best Lawyers.
Steven Strother Steven is a member of Maynard’s Real Estate & Financial Services Practice. Steven’s practice focuses on a wide range of real estate matters across industrial, office, residential, retail, and timberland sectors. His experience includes representing property owners, developers, operators, investment managers, and institutional investors in structuring joint ventures, partnerships, private equity funds, real estate syndications, and tax-deferred exchanges in connection with the acquisition, development, financing, construction, leasing, management, and disposition of real estate projects across the United States. He also advises clients on complex tax issues pertaining to real estate, including acquisition and disposition planning, capital structuring, like-kind exchanges, real estate investment trusts (REITs), and other tax-sensitive matters. He received his LL.M., summa cum laude, from the University of Alabama School of Law. He earned his J.D., cum laude, from Cumberland School of Law. Steven also holds an M.B.A. from the University of Alabama at Birmingham and a B.S.B.A. in Accounting from Auburn University.
