Maynard Nexsen Welcomes SCOTUS Clerk Back to the Firm

11.27.2024

Maynard Nexsen, a full-service law firm with 24 offices across the United States, is pleased to welcome attorney Will Courtney back to the firm from his United States Supreme Court Clerkship with Justice Clarence Thomas.

Serving as one of Justice Thomas’ four clerks for the 2023 term, Will returns to Maynard Nexsen in the firm’s Appellate Practice. Prior to joining Maynard Nexsen and before his SCOTUS clerkship, he also was a clerk to Chief Judge William H. Pryor Jr. on the United States Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit and for Associate Justice Jay Mitchell on the Alabama Supreme Court.

"Serving as a law clerk to Justice Thomas was an honor,” Will said. “I was blessed to work as part of a small team of exceptional co-clerks on some of the country’s most complex and fast-moving cases. No other opportunity could have similarly sharpened my ability to analyze a new case, write with speed and polish, and work as a team. I can’t wait to bring my skills back to the appellate group at Maynard.”

John Neiman, leader of the firm’s Appellate team, said, “Will is a talented lawyer with a big heart and a kind soul. He could have worked anywhere in the country. He chose here, and our clients, our firm, and our community will all win as a result.”

Will earned his J.D., magna cum laude, from Harvard Law School. While in law school, he was Managing Editor of the Journal for Law & Public Policy and Development Chairman of the Federalist Society. He received his B.A. in Government and Economics from the University of Virginia, where he was a member of the Virginia Men's Rowing team.
